The most intelligent comment I heard about the rumors concerning the French presidential couple (it seems they are wrong) is: "The rumor has not been denied, so it is false."
And we all agree that, if Carla and Nicolas both cheat, then it's a personal matter and it's up to them to deal with it. It's only later, when a couple hires a widely publicized divorce layer that it becomes a public matter, for instance as when Cecilia (the former wife of Sarkozy) hired a lawyer to formalize the split between her and the French President. Or when our favorite Beatle was taken to court by the evil ex wife for half of his fortune. (yet, he did not cheat, did he?)
How can we be sure of what is going on? We always assume that the man will be the one having an affair, especially if he is a man of power. Why they both would have an affair at the same time? As usual, the French newspapers didn't print a word about the rumor, while the British press makes it onto the headlines! As tabloid gems go, this one was a very shinny one with a strong potential. The Parisian blogosphere was buzzing with gossip. British newspaper editors were very excited with the potential of this story. It was too good to be true, they cried, as France reportedly "reeled" from the revelation that both Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni, his wife of just over two years, were both having an affair at the same time.
Again, we must understand the "queen" Carla Bruni has definitely taken the place of Princess Diana. She is beautiful and caring and we all think her husband has too much of an ego. To the disappointment of the press , we did not get too many sexy details about the events. I am pretty sure Carla's next comments to the press are more likely to be about a charity event or famine in Africa than about her husband cheating on her, or not cheating on her or her cheating on her husband. But is it really cheating when you are a French President? Maybe we should ask Silvio Berlusconi to see what he makes of the whole story and if he can afford any comments on cheating or let us know if using an escort is cheating or just fun on the side? Maybe Carla and Nicolas could learn a lot from him !
